Do you ever see the cheer pieces on the news about a person turning 107, with the anchor mentioning a few of the things the celebrator has done with their lives? Things like swam from Florida to Cuba at 23, First to land in Normandy, or knitted 3,000 blankets for a woman's shelter. Do you honestly think they reached a ripe old age by chance? I don't think that for a moment.

Listening to a book on a streaming service while cutting soap with my husband the other night got me to thinking-Do people live longer when their lives are filled with passion, purpose and a naturally driven spirit? (Genetics & living well has much to do with it, I am sure) This book on tape if you will, was "Every tool is a hammer: Life is what you make it" by Adam Savage. Noted as an " Imperative how-to for creativity" (Right up a soap makers alley, right?) I have only listened a couple hours, but I am fascinated on Adam's take on active creativity & following your curiosities.

On the days where I am fully immersed in a project, or working a long market day, my body & mind feel energized. On days like this, things seem to click and hum producing a great day of work. I think that when your mind is engaged and body is following suit, you're creating an energy that promotes a harmony & wellness.

So, what, I wonder does a person of 107 do with every day of their life to make it to that age? Do they eat well every day of their lives? Do they make exercise a top priority? Do they use the things in their lives that are quality, only focusing on what enhances life for the future?

Maybe that’s why creativity matters so much. Whether it’s building, painting, gardening, writing, knitting blankets, or even making soap — creating keeps us connected to ourselves and to the world around us. It keeps the mind turning and the spirit engaged.

And perhaps those small daily acts of purpose are what quietly carry people all the way to 107.

I'm sure that has something to do with it...
